Da Nang is considering a proposal to hold Dragon Bridge fire and water shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in addition to the three weekend evenings, to support night tourism.
On November 2, the Da Nang People's Committee Office said the city People's Committee chairman had instructed the departments of culture, sports and tourism, and construction to urgently coordinate an increase in the frequency of the shows for visitors, in line with actual conditions and current regulations.
The instruction followed a proposal from companies in the domestic waterway tourism sector that belong to the Da Nang Tourism Association. They asked to add two shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Dragon Bridge currently breathes fire and sprays water on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The companies said the number of visitors sightseeing and taking tourist boat trips on the Han River is significantly lower at the beginning of the week than on weekends.
The companies said the additional shows could add to Da Nang's night tourism and make better use of interest in the landmark structure.
The proposal calls for additional shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Thursday reserved for maintenance. It also considers adding sound and lighting systems, connecting the color-changing LED lights on the dragon's body to background music, and developing performance scenarios for different fire and water programs.
The companies propose raising the operating contribution from VND 5,000 to VND 10,000 per passenger using waterway tourism services. The funds are expected to cover fuel, sound and lighting equipment, maintenance, labor, safety measures, fire prevention and traffic regulation.
Under the proposed schedule, relevant departments will collect opinions, compile materials and submit them to the city People's Committee for consideration and approval in November 2026. The companies propose a one-year pilot beginning December 1, 2026, after the city approves the plan.
Increasing the frequency of the Dragon Bridge shows could add a night tourism product and support waterway transport and related services. The plan still needs to be reviewed and assessed by the authorities before it can begin.
