On November 2, the Dak Lak Provincial Police's Investigation Police Office said it had opened a case and ordered the detention of two people: 41-year-old Tran Thi Kim Anh, who lives in Thanh Nhat Ward, and 40-year-old Tran Dai Nghia from Da Nang. They are being investigated for using computer networks, telecommunications networks and electronic devices to appropriate property.

According to the initial investigation, Kim Anh worked in priority-customer service at a bank branch in Dak Lak Province. She allegedly used her position and customers' trust to borrow their phones under the pretext of helping them log in to and use the electronic banking application.

While handling the customers' phones, Kim Anh allegedly secretly transferred ownership of their online savings accounts to Tran Dai Nghia's account without their knowledge.

The two regularly contacted each other and exchanged information through Zalo and Telegram to coordinate the alleged scheme.

Kim Anh initially told investigators that she and Nghia had appropriated the savings of five customers from July to September, totaling VND31.7 billion.

Dak Lak police advised residents never to hand over a phone that is logged in to a banking application for someone else to use, not to disclose passwords or one-time passwords, and to check transaction details themselves before confirming any transaction.
