After 10 years of allowing speeds up to 120 km/h, the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway will lower the limit to 100 km/h.

According to Vietnam's traffic police, the Vietnam Road Administration issued document No. 6199 on changes to traffic organization on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway, part of route CT.01. The maximum speed on lanes and sections currently allowing 120 km/h will be reduced to 100 km/h.

The new rule is scheduled to take effect on October 12, after the relevant road signs have been adjusted and put into use.

Speed rules at other locations and the rest of the traffic plan on the route will remain unchanged. The adjustment is intended to match operating speeds with infrastructure conditions and coordinate traffic organization with neighboring expressway sections, improving road safety.

The expressway is about 50 km long and has operated along its full route since 2012. In February 2016, its maximum speed was raised to 120 km/h after an additional rough-surfaced asphalt-concrete layer was completed. In March 2025, Vietnam Expressway Corporation, which manages the route, proposed expanding it from four to six lanes at an estimated cost of more than VND 2.11 trillion. Under the plan announced at the time, construction was expected to start in the first quarter of 2026 and finish in 2028. Most of the expressway still has four lanes, with six lanes only on a few short sections.

The Cau Gie - Ninh Binh route is an important section of Vietnam's north-south expressway network, connecting with the Phap Van - Cau Gie section, the southern gateway to Hanoi. Traffic is often heavy, with congestion common during public holidays and Tet. The Phap Van - Cau Gie section has six traffic lanes and a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

Traffic police advise drivers to watch speed and junction signs, obey maximum and minimum speed limits, choose an appropriate speed, keep a safe distance, pay attention when changing lanes and entering or leaving the expressway, and follow officers' instructions.
