Can Tho proposal
The Can Tho People's Committee has submitted a draft resolution on the number of community health workers and their monthly support payments in the city.
Statistics following the merger of provincial-level administrative units show that Can Tho has 1,227 local communities. Of these, 713 have at least 350 households, 113 are in communes classified by the government as disadvantaged areas, 396 areas have at least 500 households, and five remaining communities fall into other categories.
The plan would place one health worker in each community, for a total of 1,227 people. The city does not plan to appoint village midwives. These health workers would assist commune and ward health stations with primary healthcare in the community.
Proposed support
Under the draft resolution, health workers in communities with at least 350 households, communities in communes classified by the government as disadvantaged areas, and areas with at least 500 households would receive a monthly payment equal to 0.7 times the base salary.
For workers in the remaining communities, the proposed payment would equal 0.5 times the base salary. Total funding for the policy is expected to exceed VND 26 billion a year.
According to the Can Tho People's Committee, the resolution is intended to standardize the number of community health workers and monthly support levels across the city, taking into account population, territory and primary healthcare duties.
The policy is intended to strengthen, maintain and improve the effectiveness of the grassroots healthcare network, support primary healthcare, prevent infectious diseases and monitor residents' health in the community.
The resolution would also provide a legal basis for allocating, managing and using the state budget to support eligible workers in an open and transparent manner.
The Can Tho People's Committee is expected to submit the resolution to the city People's Council for consideration and approval at an upcoming session.
