Construction of Vietnam's Can Tho 2 bridge, with a six-lane expressway above and a double-track railway below, is planned to start in 2027. The project's total investment is more than VND27 trillion.
The Ministry of Construction has issued a decision approving the investment policy for the Can Tho 2 bridge construction project and the approach roads on both sides of the bridge.
Under the decision, the project's preliminary total investment is more than VND27,000 billion. The project will be funded entirely by the central government budget.
The route will be about 17.6km long. The main Can Tho 2 bridge will be about 870m long and will use a cable-stayed design with a special steel truss as its main girder.
The project is classified as Group A. Construction is planned to start in 2027, with completion and opening to traffic after five years of implementation.
The structure's notable feature is the combination of road and rail on the same bridge. The upper level will carry a six-lane expressway without an emergency stopping lane, with a design speed of 100km/h.
The lower level will carry a double-track railway with a 1.435m gauge. The design speed will be 160km/h for passenger trains and 120km/h for freight trains.
