According to a list of taxpayers with outstanding tax and other state-budget payments published by the Ho Chi Minh City tax authority, California Fitness & Yoga's owner, Trung tâm Thể dục Thể hình & Yoga California Co., Ltd., owed more than VND 4.35 billion as of the September reporting period. The company is located at 126 Hùng Vương in Chợ Lớn, Ho Chi Minh City.

The company owns the California Fitness & Yoga gym chain. A list of employers behind on social insurance payments in Ho Chi Minh City showed that its arrears exceeded VND 9 billion at the end of September. Combined tax debt and overdue social insurance payments therefore exceeded VND 13.3 billion.

California Fitness & Yoga has recently announced the temporary suspension of clubs in several provinces and cities, one after another.

The brand's website currently lists nine branches in Hanoi, and all California Fitness & Yoga facilities there have temporarily stopped operating.

On October 25, the chain also announced the temporary suspension of its only club in Nha Trang, citing operational reasons. Clubs in Bien Hoa and Da Nang had previously closed for the same reason.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the brand has continued to close facilities. Only three branches remain: Cali 3/2, Cali Aeon Mall Bình Tân and Cali Bình Dương Square. California Fitness & Yoga was reported to have 35 facilities in 2025.

The repeated closures have unsettled California Fitness & Yoga members. Earlier, Dane Fort, the chain's founder and CEO, appeared in a video posted on the brand's fan page and apologized on behalf of the company's management to members, employees, partners and other related parties for problems that had arisen.

The CEO said the chain would stop charging an extra fee for some GroupX and Yoga classes. He also said it would prioritize maintaining and gradually restoring essential services such as towels, drinking water and parking assistance.

After the announcement, many California Fitness & Yoga clubs stopped collecting the additional VND 20,000 fee. Members began returning, but many branches have since closed again, interrupting customers' workouts.

The report also noted that other gym companies appeared on the September tax-debt lists. In a list published by Tax Division No. 10, Citigym, located at 52 Thành Thái in Hòa Hưng, Ho Chi Minh City, owed more than VND 7.53 billion and ranked sixth.

The same list showed that Getfit, located at 459 Sư Vạn Hạnh in Hòa Hưng, owed VND 2.4 billion and ranked 25th.

Meanwhile, a list published by Tax Division No. 3 showed Fit 24, located at 621 Hoàng Sa in Xuân Hòa, Ho Chi Minh City, with tax debt of more than VND 1.62 billion.

A list from Tax Division No. 14 showed Healthy Khơ Mon Group, located at 79 Vũ Tùng in Gia Định, Ho Chi Minh City, with tax debt of more than VND 401 million.
