On October 19, Dong Nai General Hospital reported its first successful kidney transplant. The donor was L.P.T., a 40-year-old man from An Giang, and the recipient was his wife, H.T.H., a 46-year-old woman from Thanh Hoa. Two weeks after the surgery, both patients' health was gradually stabilizing.
The operation took place on October 6 with support from specialists at Cho Ray Hospital. To introduce the technique, Dong Nai General Hospital sent doctors and medical staff for advanced training, upgraded equipment and its operating room, and completed infection-control procedures.
The transplant was provided free of charge. The hospital will also provide free treatment support to the couple for the next six months. Several companies and organizations gave the family gifts and financial support for treatment on the occasion.
At a conference, second-degree specialist Dr. Do Thi Nguyen, director of the Dong Nai City Department of Health, said the area has nearly 1,000 dialysis patients. The department asked the hospital to continue developing a kidney-transplant program, put patient safety first, expand workforce training, and strengthen specialized healthcare in the province.
