Imperial City inside the Citadel
The Hue monuments are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enter the Imperial City and allow time for courtyards, pavilions and restored parts of the ensemble. The grounds are extensive; look at the visitor map before setting off to avoid backtracking. Routes and exhibits can change during restoration.
Dong Ba Market and the Perfume River
After the monuments, Dong Ba Market offers a view of everyday Hue through food and trade. Continue to the river for a shorter walk along the bank. If energy is limited, reduce the monument list rather than rushing through another large site.
Thien Mu Pagoda to the west
The pagoda stands above the river west of the centre. It combines well with a journey through the western part of Hue. It remains a religious place, so dress respectfully and leave worshippers space. Boat trips depend on operator and weather; arrange a reliable return.
Tu Duc and Khai Dinh tombs
The royal tombs lie in different directions from the centre and offer distinct settings. Tu Duc has a landscaped site; Khai Dinh presents later architecture and dense decoration. Choose one or two, not every tomb in a single day. Check official access, prices and hours before travelling.
Plan your time
- Allow several hours for the Imperial City and carry water.
- Agree on a tomb route with your driver before leaving.
- In rain, check access to monuments and open grounds.
