Cameras supplement police checks
During the same week, Hanoi traffic police handled 8,456 violations, impounded 1,847 vehicles, revoked 60 driving licences and deducted points from 1,208 licences. Police also recorded 1,448 alcohol-related cases and 672 violations involving students.
The camera network has expanded in stages. Hanoi installed 1,837 cameras at 195 intersections and 25 major routes in late 2025. By mid-2026, the system had grown to more than 2,400 cameras, including over 1,100 capable of detecting violations.
The network is nearing 5,000 cameras
In July, police opened the second phase of the city’s command and information centre and installed a further 2,460 AI cameras. The total number across Hanoi is now close to 5,000.
For comparison, the system detected 393 violations in its first three days. It recorded more than 33,100 cases during the first six months of 2026. The latest weekly total averaged 572 violations a day.
